Default 1st time cruisers tipping on HAL

We're taking an Inside Passage cruise on the Volendam on 9/17 and I would love to get a breakdown of suggested tips and exactly who we should expect to be tipping. I imagine the steward, the waiter, bartender...but who else? And will we be primarily leaving tips in envelopes at the end? or leaving daily tips as with a hotel stay? Thanks in advance!

You tip at the end. The suggested is $3.50 per day p/p for the cabin steward and main waiter. The assistant waiter @2.00 per day p/p. The maitre d' if a special requset or is attentive, usually $10 to $15 for a 7day cruise. As for bar tipping on HAL they do not automatically add 15% to the bar tab. The best is just to carry $1.00 bills with you or near the end of the cruise search them out and tip at your discretion.

On HAL you will need to ask the purser for envelopes, they do not add them to your account. Some folks think that their no tipping required policy means you do not have to tip. What is really means is that that want to give good service no matter what and are not doing a good job just for the tip. We always tip them just like any other cruise as Y2C mentioned. When we do back to back cruises we tip at the end of each segment and you can tell the staff really appreciate them.
