Hawaiian Print Shirts - does your man wear them?

Does he buy the cheepie ones on the islands and wear them for Caribbean/Deck Party night?
Or does he have a nice good quality Tommy Bahama?

A few yrs ago, before they really became popular,I bought some from a catalogue, called Paradise on a Hanger. Thye were wonderful, and at the time I thought pricey...around $65-90.00. Thay had fabulous prints, and hubby loved them. Since then, you can get wonderful ones in lots of stores for every pocket....When he puts it on, I swear I can here him sing, Hot, Hot, Hot!!

Gary has a couple that he wears ONLY on a cruise. We were lucky enough to get them on sale in our local department store.

My hubby has several of the Tommy Bahama ones but we always get them on clearance the end of summer or occasionially I will find one at Ross-so he has nice ones-the last one I bought was silk back in the fall from Parisian-orginally over $50 and I bought it for $15!

He did have a couple of cheapie ones also. I donated them to the local thrift shop as he had much nicer ones and did not need those anymore.

Normally he does not wear his to dinner unless it is "Island night" and we are told to dress "tropicial". He wears them with his shorts in the daytime.

Hubby has a few but will NOT wear them on cruise. He doesn't want to be picked out for anything for any show and nows that it would just bring attention.

DH has several of the Tommy Bahama ones that he wears on a cruise. We picked them up at a local second hand store. Looked brand new and at $2 each they were a bargain.

dina April 24th, 2006 10:07 AM

My DH has many of them. Some of them are "party" prints and some are on the classy side.

Sea Trekker April 24th, 2006 07:45 PM

My DH has several. I picked them out and he voted on which ones he like the best.
Being that we live in florida, he can wear them just about any time. Mostly to the beach, and on cruises.
There are lots & lots of "beachy" type stores here so it's no problem finding them. I think Tommy Bahama are over priced. I shop the local mom and pop stores and find the best deals. I bought one at Wal-mart and it fell apart when I washed it. Never buy clothing at wal mart again.
CHEAP CHEAP !!! :(

Yes, he has a few. But not the super bright, really 'loud' print ones.

Yes, hubby has one" for cruises only" that I picked out for him in St. Maarten. It's tropical, but subtle, and in his favourite shade of blue. Now to find a screaming purple one for me..... :D

Living in Florida, they are a staple. I have several very nice ones that I do wear on casual nights but nothing loud or gregarious.

Donna February 18th, 2012 04:22 PM

I think it is one of the staples every man needs in his closet, just one of those things. It may hang there for a long time, but usually does get worn.

Lakers Fan February 18th, 2012 09:10 PM

I've never worn one.

Manuel February 18th, 2012 10:39 PM

I have a good collection of them that I bought in Hawaii. Now that I am a Floridian I wear them fairly often.

As an upcoming first timer I have now read a lot of threads about cruising.

It appears that those that really decide they will "get into" the experience, have the best time, so...

Although I am not a shorts or a Hawaiian shirt guy, I have my shorts, I am getting my shirt, and let the good time roll! :D

Mike M February 19th, 2012 09:31 AM

Marsdude:

Go for it. You could even buy Hawaiian Print Shorts. :)

Take care and I hope you have a great cruise.

Marsdude, it seems by your postings, you are the kind of guy, with an attitude that attracts, people to you...having fun, not overthinking every minute, onboard, and, looking for a bit of serendipity along the way...:-)

Hawaiian printed shirts have been in fashion since many years and many people have a special craze regarding these shirts. I am a man and I know the male's nature regarding the shirts that no matter what ever may be the range of price, if the printed shirts are nice to look at, then definitely he will buy it.

Snoozeman May 10th, 2012 05:33 AM

I wear them all the time.....

Peddler November 26th, 2012 09:02 AM

So do I...

Manuel November 26th, 2012 11:04 AM

I wear them several times a week..

Around the yard a tank top is enough.

Snoozeman February 18th, 2013 07:05 PM

Got my first batik shirt last week in St. Kitts.

BigMac March 15th, 2013 06:19 PM

I collect these and wear them whenever I feel like I need a vacation.

I actually got scolded today for not wearing one to work. (I lost track of what day it is)
I have some expensive and some cheap...

One of the cheap ones is my favorite.

Bernie by the sea March 15th, 2013 10:01 PM

I have several. Normally wear them on FRIDAY! i even have a following from the home office in Milan Italy, sometimes they want a Video conference just to see what shirt i have on.

they are much more comfortable than Polo's or Button downs when trying to relax

Bernie by the sea May 28th, 2013 10:03 PM

wife just bought me 7 new "tropical" shirts at WALMART . They have Panama Jack brand up to size 4x. Nice for the Price, less than $15 each.

Ethan171 September 27th, 2013 12:48 AM

I have tried that few years back. But never tried that again But I hope I will try that again very soon. And I don't remember the brand but it remembered the price. That was $23.
