South America - best side of ship?

Have been told the port side is best for balcony viewing (Rio to Santiago) - any thoughts?

Yep, I think it's bad advice. Going from Rio to Santiago the port side (left)will always be away from land. That's not what you want. When you get to the fjords in Chile (the most scenic portion of the cruise) you will want to see the spectacular glaciers and they are going to be on the Starboard side. We did the cruise in the opposite direction, Santiago to Rio and we had a port side balcony. That's where most of the scenery was.

From rio to Santiago. Port side is incorrect. You will see nothing.
No land or animals. Star board you will see everything. We will cruise
from Santiago to Rio we will do Port side for land.

You will want to be on the right side (starboard side) of the ship if you want to see land.

We just returned from the RCCL's Mariner of the Seas - 46 days from
Florida to Los Angeles - you most definately want to have a starboard
side cabin (hopefully with a balcony) - the land should be on your right -
as you are traveling south from Rio to the Horn and then up to Santiago.

Was a wonderful trip - hope yours is great as well.

Along the amazon river both sides work just great. you can enjoy my home town from either. Best place is actually the upper deck.
