Default Not a newbie but close...some questions.

OK, have cruise one other time (Enchantment of the Sea six years ago, 5 night) but either some things have changed or my memory is failing. We are currently booked on the IOTS for an 8 night cruise in March.

1) I dont remember ever eating at the main dining room for breakfast or lunch. Is there a lot of variety during these times? Does anyone remember items that were available or even better, a menu, What is the dress code for lunch/breakfast? I think I saw somewhere that you arent supposed to wear shorts, but you you get away with nice jeans and a button down shirt? I cant imagine getting all dressed up to eat breakfast.

2) I see that the windjammer is closed at some times during the day and night? I could have sworn that it was open 24 hrs a day when we took our cruise.

(3) Is room service totally free (plus tip)? Something else I dont remember 6 years ago. Is the menu for room service the same as the dining room?

4) saw that Royal Carribean changed their wine/champagne rule so you can take two bottles on board. I'm assuming that it is per cabin and not per person? If you put two bottles in your luggage, how would they know that you also had 2 botles in your carry on as well?

5) What restaurants are an upcharge and which are free? I think I read Johnny Rockets is about $5.00 a person. Does that mean that you get to order anything on the menu for 5.00? What about the pizza place? I havent read anywhere that this is free or that it costs anthing. Do they only sell slices of pizza or do they also sell whole pizzas? Is there any other cafes/restaurants that are open 24 hrs a day? If so, what do they sell? Is Ben and Jerry much more expensive that it is on the mainland? Do you need to make reservation to eat at Chops and Portafino?

thank you

The dress code for the MDR is basically for dinner, you can wear shorts and swim wear with a cover up for breakfast and lunch.

I don't ever recall the Windjammer open 24/7...Princess has the Horizon Ct. that is open all the time.

I believe there is a small charge for room service after a certain time, late at night, but otherwise, just a tip would be nice to give the person who delivers your order.

Yes, both Chops and Portofino's have the extra charge, have eaten at Chops and I thought it was well worth the extra bucks. Also J. Rockets is an extra charge..

I recently read about bringing 2 bottles of wine onboard, that may be per person?? Something you may want to check into further, to see if you can bring 2 more..

This is why it's always advisable to book through an agent - they'll be very happy to discuss all the details with you and provide some very useful and helpful information.

Please note my notes below.

We almost always eat in the main dining room for breakfast and lunch. We like to sit down, relax, and be waited on instead of the hustle/bustle in the buffet. It's not necessarily better, just different menu. As for dress code, you can wear casual attire including shorts for breakfast and lunch, just not for dinner.

2) I see that the windjammer is closed at some times during the day and night? I could have sworn that it was open 24 hrs a day when we took our cruise.

Very few cruises now offer 24/7 buffet - too expensive. But they usually have a pizza place and/or hamburger place were you can get some food.

(3) Is room service totally free (plus tip)? Something else I dont remember 6 years ago. Is the menu for room service the same as the dining room?

As was mentioned, you can order room service, which is free except for a small charge for late night service. I would provide a gratuity to the server bringing your order. There is a menu in your stateroom. We've ordered items not on the menu and have gotten them, while on other ships we couldn't get them. (Even managed to get prime rib and lobster on formal night delivered to our cabin once when we didn't want to go to the main dining room, but next time we tried it on another ship we were told they couldn't do it.)

4) saw that Royal Carribean changed their wine/champagne rule so you can take two bottles on board. I'm assuming that it is per cabin and not per person? If you put two bottles in your luggage, how would they know that you also had 2 botles in your carry on as well?

Yes, the policy has changed. You can now bring two bottles (750ml) of wine or champagne per stateroom onboard at your initial embarkation port only. They must be carried on and not checked in your luggage.

5) What restaurants are an upcharge and which are free? I think I read Johnny Rockets is about $5.00 a person. Does that mean that you get to order anything on the menu for 5.00? There is a $4.95 surcharge at Johnny Rockets and you can order anything on the menu. Pizza is no charge and yes, you can have a custom made pizza to order. You don't have to make a reservation to eat at Chops ($30 per person charge) and Portofino ($20 per person charge), but it is suggested as they can often fill up.

thank you
