1 last Oasis question...

We have been on several cruises and always brought a bottle of rum back to our cabin at the first port. Was wondering if this was still possible with security upgrades???

The times they are a changing.....

Unfortunately, you can't bring any alcohol onboard. You use to be able to bring a bottle of wine or champagne at the initial embarkation port, but alas, no longer.

Here's their official policy;

Q: Can I bring liquor or non-alcoholic beverages (from home or from a port) onboard?

A: Guests are not allowed to bring alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages onboard for consumption or any other use. Alcoholic beverages that are purchased in ports-of-call or from Shops On Board will be stored by the ship and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the sailing. Alcoholic beverages seized on embarkation day will not be returned.

Security may inspect containers (water bottles, soda bottles, mouthwash, luggage etc.) and will dispose of containers holding alcohol. Guests who violate any alcohol policies, (over consume, provide alcohol to people under age 21, demonstrate irresponsible behavior, or attempt to conceal alcoholic items at security and or luggage check points or any other time), may be disembarked or not allowed to board, at their own expense, in accordance with our Guest Conduct Policy. Guests who are under the permitted drinking age will not have alcohol returned to them.

I am not telling you what to do, I am just saying...

If you do this - act surprised if they take it, as if you had no idea it would be a problem.

Chances are, they will find it and hold it for you until the end of the cruise. Every now and then something may pass by them, up to you. At least you will not loose it completely if they see it...

We took a water bottle with rum in our luggage. We purchased a few airline bottles in port of some interesting rums. We did buy several bottles and handed them over when getting back on the ship. They gave one bottle to us to hold. It was a bottle of Guavaberry Rum in a hand painted bottle we bought in St Maarten. They said it was considered a souviner! It was more of an issue getting ice!

All that being said they made out all right on our bar bill! We did not find the drinks to be anymore expensive than local places by us at home. So not being huge drinkers it all worked out fine.

One last observation. They asked at customs if we had purshased any cigars from Cuba but not if we purchased any Cuban rum. Good thing....
