Default Transatlantic next year; 2013

I am wanting to do a transatlantic cruise next year, in either November or December, and wondered if anyone had suggestions for me.?

When might be the best time to book? What should I be looking for when I do some research? Are the sea days, for the most part, calm or should I plan on more rough seas than calm ones?

Any and all tips/hints/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Red face Transatlantic Cruise

I'm certainly no expert in transatlantic cruises, but we have done two. Both were in September. On one of them, we ran into the end of a hurricane, and the seas were very high, plus strong winds. Couldn't go out on deck for a couple of days. The other TA crossing was as smooth as glass.

I'm not familiar with TA cruises that go in November/December - I thought most were in the September/October time frame (hurricane season in the Atlantic).

Whenever we cruise, we always book as far in advance as possible. First, to get the cabin we want, second, to get the best price. We know other folks who wait till the last minute. As they say, to each his own.

You should factor in the ports the ship will visit, especially if the cruise will stop at a place you really want to visit.

Others with more TA experience will most likely have something to add. Enjoy.

Love the T/A any time of the year BUT we don't get seasick so that helps. Crossing on the Epic last Oct/Nov was great. No weather events but we were up high and forward so lotsa rocking and rollin even in 6-8ft waves. Booking early is the key to these. We are doing Mariner in Nov this year and price I booked a "JS" at last year wouldn't get you a balcony now.

The main thing is IF you enjoy the sea days, these can be wonderful. Have a customer who is trying it this Nov. because they do enjoy the down time.

The kick in the head to these is the air so make sure you know the whole cost going into it.

Transatlantic &/or Caribbean during Hurricane Season (July thru November) can be a nightmare. My parents experienced one coming over from Barcelona, my transatlantic trips have been in the spring and always had smooth seas. I'm careful to check the weather and book later (1-2 wks ahead) for Caribbean. I'm looking for a cabinmate for Navigator of the Seas NOLa to Rome April 6-21, 2013.
