My husband and I are considering a two week cruise in January from LA to Hawaii. I am a bit concerned about what the weather will be like. We love sea days, but will it be warm enough to go out on the decks? Any input is appreciated!
You could probably count on the first and last two days being quite cold. The open Pacific is hard to predict. A girlfriend did this cruise last February and the weather was brutal going over. Princess and HAL both missed a port due to needing an extra sea day to reach Hawaii.

I have been on the west coast most of my life.
I have been fishing offshoar here for many many years. I spent so much time on the water I contemplated getting my 6Pack License.
All that being said.. I would go in aug sept. It is when were having some very calm conditions most of the time.
If you wait till this time of year you may run into some real nasty weather.
These observations are only for the west coast out to about 50 miles.
We have cross twice in Dec. yes we have seen bad weather, & we to have miss ports. But the Islands R beautiful & the weather is good, go & enjoy we did.
We have cruise in Jan to the islands out of LA and found the first few days rough but ok. The cruise before ours missed Maui but we had perfect weather after the first few days out. We are also doing the 15 day out of SF 19jan2014 and hoping for similar weather as last time.
