I don't remember the travel time - others can chime in, but I think it was about 20 minutes. The trick with SJU was the very long lines at check in and security. If you have several ships coming into port and vacationers ending their time away SJU can be very busy.

I would tend to agree, maybe a bit longer [30 minutes] with the traffic congestion. This airport has been very crowded the times I have passed through...While we were getting off, to cruise, everyone is leaving to go home, so. masses of people.
Avoiding all this hassle for one way, is coming in a day early...you could also book a ships tour, the day you disembark, if you have a late flight. You get off the ship sooner, and, on a bus, to extend the crusie feeling for a few hours.
Trip, with her book & tea!

It depends on which cruiseport you are going to. Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and some other lines use the Pan-American Pier, while Carnival Corp. ships tend to use the piers in Old San Juan for embarkation. These are 2 different ports at very different places. The time it takes to get to the cruiseport depends on which one you are going to.

Many of the taxis are vans or minivans and can accomodate up to 6 or 7 people in some cases. The Airport is located approximately 10 miles from the Pan American Pier and 11 miles from the OSJ Piers. It usually takes about 15-25 minutes in a taxi for the trip, dependent upon traffic.
Cruise ships that start in San Juan will use either OSJ Pier 4 (4-E or 4-W) or the Pan American Pier (PAD-E or PAD-W). Rarely, the Navy Frontier Pier is used.
