Default When you cruise again what would you do different?

When you cruise again what would you do different?
* Pack different?
* Plan different?
* Pick a different stateroom?
* Pick a different dinning room time?
* Choose a different sailing itinerary?
* Spend less on ?????
* Spend less on photos?
* Drink less?
* Eat less?
* Book a cruise longer than the last one?
* Do more or less in port excursions?
* Stay on board the ship at some ports?

Add your own comments on what you would do more or less. Cruising is fun but everyone has their own do and don't do ideas.

I went on my first Disney Cruise in March, 2010! I LOVED it!!!
I packed great, so i wouldnt change that. The only thing is there is no really fancy night... so you dont need fancy clothes. Theres one night where theres a "fancy" night.. but i just wore a sundress and fit in fine! No Tux's! Our stateroom was great.. I would definitely recommend spending extra money (if possible) for an ocean view... it opens up the room a lot and is awesome to wake up in the morning,look out the window.. and see tropical islands!
We chose the late dinner, which I would definitely recommend!! Disney is all about the shows.. so there are two shows a night, (the same one) corresponding with your dinner. Eating later gives you time to do what you want, go back to your room, get ready, and go to a show. Also, it gives you more time on the islands, because you dont have to be back on board so early.
If your taking kids, be careul! They can use their roomkey to buy anything.. and it can really add up. The girl who I was with bought so many pins on her card, they added up to about $300... (although she did win $100 at Bingo.. so go to that!!! ) The photos they take are so clear and fun to look at.. we bought them, and look at them a lot. So buying them for memories was good. But if your on a tight budget, bring your own camera! Take pictures a lot... and you wont need to buy the pro ones.
All food is included! And drinks (exept alcohol and smoothies) so eat and drink as much as you would like! Take advantage of this.. order two entrees at dinner! Get a burger by the pool. The food is amazing!! so dont miss out or not eat it!! Youll miss the food long after the cruise is over!
Our cruise was only 5 days.. not enough time!!! (in my opinion..) I would definitely LOVE to book a 7 day or more cruise.. it is seriously that fun! You wont run out of things to do.
We did the Atlantis resort at Nassau,,, and it was amazing. I would reccomend it, but its expensive. I would suggest maybe coming in early from Castaway Cay... after your done relaxing. Maybe if you dont book an excursion there, go on the ship early. Swim in the pool while theres no one there (its always full!)
My favorite things to do were the gameshows!!!!! They were sooooo fun! attend everyone! dont miss out. Read the daily guide of things to do, and youll never be bored!!! Disney makes everything magical. I did another cruise on royal carribean.. it was fun but it did not compare. Disney makes you feel so safe, and at home. HAVE FUN!!!

I have done so many cruises now I wouldnt change anything i do.

But looking back from the first cruise I would say I took too many clothes for dinner.
The following cruises I would wear the same skirt 2 or 3 times by changing my blouse or adding a sweater to cover a blouse I had worn before.

I only take one pair of black sandals to wear to dinner every night. They go with slacks, dresses or even a more formal dress, no need to pack 10 pairs of shoes like some ladies do. Of course i have my tennis shoes and thongs for walking to the pool

To save $$ on photos I often will take our camera and ask the photographers assistant to also take our photos with our camera, or DH would take mine and i take his. I only do this on Disney. They are great about it where other lines dont like to do this. I always buy the boarding photo.

If grandkids come I will buy more of their photos too but it does save a lot to have them use your camera too. Buying photos on board is expensive.

After having small items slide around the shelves in the bathroom I found its great to bring a cheap (dollar store) over the door shoe holder to put on the bathroom door. Then put things like tooth brushes, toothpaste, deodorant , make up, etc... In it. After the cruise just throw away the shoe holder and that makes room for souvenirs.

My first cruise was done with my father, stepmother and younger step sister. I kind of just went along for the ride (what a great ride it was!) Now I am preparing for my second trip, and I know much more about how to prepare and what I want to do different.

I certainly will pack a bit different, last time I forgot necessities like sunscreen, Dramamine and extra bags to bring home souvenirs with. Last time on our cruise we had no excursions planned. This time we will. Also last time, I didn't know to check in prior to see if there were any special theme days planned. I missed a lot of the fun by not knowing about the pirate parade or dress up days.

My next cruise (March 2012) I expect to do more of everything . I've been limited in activity on my last few cruises but I am expecting to be in great shape physically .

Hi There,
If you arrange in advance the kids will NOT BE ABLE TO BUY ON THE ROOM KEY. This can be done. We arranged it. Nothing against a momento to take home BUT KIDS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO SEE N BUY AT WHIM.

Your right.............no bif formal dress night BUT thats ok as this is all about kids and fun not fashion.........unless it's to be a pirate or pixie.

Yes Atlantis was pricy BUT............May never get there again so what the heck !

YOU ARE RIGHT THAT OTHER CRUISES DO NOT COMPARE..........NOT SUPPOSED TO. THIS IS ABOUT CHILDREN AND THE CHILD IN YOU THAT LAYS DORMANT. THIS IS MICKEY AND MINNIE'S WORLD, THERE IS NO COMPARISON AND SHOULD NOT BE.

GLAD YOU ALSO LOVED IT. WE ALWAYS GET AFT CABINS. THEY HAVE NICE OPEN BALCONEY'S AND ON THE DREAM, DECK 9 WE HAD A REALLY BIG BALCONY.

Just wanted to say ...

I think this is a great topic and I also did a thread like this awhile back. It was "what did you learn from your first cruise?"

I think it is better to do different. It is always interesting to try something new and to compare what is better. I like Scandinavian cruise.

On our next cruise I think we will arrive a day earlier to board the boat.And also we will be sailing with Carnival instead of Princess.Not that we were unhappy with Princess they were great.It is just that Carnival has the itenary that we like better.Theres not much else we just go with the flow and have fun.

Thank you for these tips! We are just planning our first cruise (Disney) and I've already discovered some invaluable advice that I wouldn't have thought of otherwise!
