Default cruising out of NY in winter

I'm booked on the New Year's Eve cruise on the NCL Dawn.

I have cruised before but always from a warm port. I haven't the faintest idea what to wear to board & on the 1st & last full days when it's too cold to go outside. I need ideas for both day time & dinner.

Thanks.

Trish,

That time of year, New York can be anywhere from the 20's below to the 60's above. Daytime temperatures are most likely to range from the thirties to the lower fifties and nighttime temperatues often go down to single digits or even below zero, but forrays outside these ranges are not without precedent. You also may encounter just about any kind of precipitation that you can imagine. The best advise is to bring layers, plus a winter jacket, boots, gloves, and a warm hat for wear off the ship.

Norm.

for the daytime aboard the ship, cordoroy, jeans or fleece pants, a turtleneck, fleece, sweater or sweatshirt layer. You will need some sort of winter parka, hat and gloves.
For evenings - New Year's Eve will most likely be a formal night. A nice cocktail dress or dressy suit will do you just fine.
For the other nights - wear what you would wear to go out to dinner at a nice restaurant back home.

What are your other ports of call? You will need to pack summer clothing if you are heading to the Bahamas or the Caribbean.

I live in NJ. I understand the weather in NYC at that time of year. We are sailing to the E. Carribbean. I know how to dress / pack for that too, including formal night, but I thank you all for your insights.

It's a 10 day cruise & my Qs concern 3 specific days: embarkation, Day 1 at sea and Day 9 at sea. Basically what you're telling me is wear jeans & be warm / comfortable. Do I undertand that correctly?

I was hoping for some advice choosing an outfit that is weather & location appropriate that still has a cruise / vacation feel. Any suggestions?

trish - exactly- wear something warm and comfortable.
Bright tropical colors in a sweatshirt/sweater or fleece would have an island feel to them.

A white turtleneck, jeans and one of these sweatshirts
