Prayers for strangers

This is a post solely for information on my part . People in the past have asked for prayers for family members . I am not part of a prayer group . I PM the person and ask for the first name of the person who needs the prayer ,the first name of their father and I ask a spiritual person in my faith to say a prayer .

I often see people post that they will add the person to their prayers .How is this done without knowing the identity of the person ?

I think I cover all the bases and I'll tell you how. I specifically name those who are requesting or need prayer (most my beloved Cruisemates with a goodly number of pepople unknown on these Boards) by name. I then pray for everyone in general regardless of whomever they may be and of course pray for Peace throughout the world.....something there seems to be little of these days.

I then finish with a prayer for all.

That's what is so special about prayer. I also will use their name, and always end with a prayer for all, because you never know who needs it.

An interesting question. I think it reflects different beliefs about access to God. Most Protestant Christians believe in the "Priesthood of Believers" where spiritual union with Jesus provides, among other things, direct access to God through prayer. There are many different understandings of the meanings and mechanisms of this.

That is not my question .

If I came on here yesterday and said a friend of mine is critically ill and I am asking for prayers ,how would you pray for this person ? This is not a question arising out of the air ,my best friend is critically ill .I am going to ask my clergy person to pray for my friend but by name .

I was going to come on here and say prayers needed but I am trying to ascertain how this is done .

You do not know the persons name and most of the people here do not know my real name .

I don't think it matters if we know the name or not. Now that I know you and your friend need prayer, it is done. FYI I pray for your health and well being everyday.

I would pray for "Henry's" friend who is critically ill. While knowing his/her name would be helpful, I believe that the Lord knows what's in our heart's if we pray for other's.

LF - I agree with Fern. The more specifics I have the more likely to pray for them, though I believe that God knows each of us, and probably even the screen names we use.

I have been asked in groups to pray for an "unspoken need" from time to time. In cases like that I pray that God would manifest his will for that person rather than their unspoken need. What if they think they need a new Ferrari - that is between them and their banker

Don't know about anyone else, but when I pray for the nameless I pray for those who are sick, in pain or afflicted by disease.

I don't have to pray for my nephew, he already owns a Maserati.
