Default VIP Checkin

I have a client that ONLY does Suite/VIP checkin when cruising New Orleans. I will find out for myself when I sail on Sunshine.

Sounds about right.

Stay to the left - the left security line is for VIPs and then around the corner into the VIP check-in area. Robert is usually working - tell him Zydecocruiser says hi!

If you are VIP and go to regular check-in, they will still have to go to the VIP area to get your S&S card.

I believe it's the same smaller room, but I doubt there are that many VIFP's tomorrow.

HAVE A GREAT CRUISE!!!

Sorry I missed this question....

I would have told her to say HI to Dolores for us....

AND to look for the VIP line against the far wall to by pass other folks at the door....easily missed unless you know to look for it....

hope they had a great embark...we will be there in less than 2 weeks.

I thought I would come back and post our experience from 2 weeks ago.....

We got to the pier around 10:30 (which is our usual). The longest wait was to get up to the point (at the end of the terminal) where we could get out of our taxi.

We weren't checking any luggage, so we proceeded to the VIP line to the left side of the terminal building, deliniated by red VIP tape to go through paper check in.

We proceeded to the xray machine along the VIP line, but here is where I had my issue. There was ONE xray machine for VIP and FOUR for general embarkation. It was early in the day so it only took about 10 minutes, but there always seems to be a bottleneck somewhere along the way.

After security, we were directed to the podium outside the VIP lounge where our name was taken, our S&S cards were pulled and then we were escorted into the VIP lounge where we waited to check in.

It was really fabulous, the whole pulling of the cards at the podium kept everything organized so that you were called to the next agents desk in the order that you arrived.

It only took about 5 minutes for us to be all checked in (we bypassed the embarkation photo) and seated in the VIP chairs outside the lounge.

I was surprised to hear that there were only 179 Platinum and 4 Diamond cruisers that week.

Boarding began around 11:30 and my next surprise came with the handicap guests. They called the 3 wedding parties 1st, then handicapped that had their own scooters and assistive devices and didn't need additional assistance, then they called Platinum. The HC guests that needed a wheelchair had to wait until one was available and were told it could be as much as a 30 minute wait.

Debarkation was a very pleasant experience as well. We always to VIP self assist and our letter said to be in the Renior at 7:15, but we showed up about 6:45 as usual. The guest services girl made everyone take a seat and keep the isles open, wouldn't let people stack their luggage at the front door or stand in the entryway. She kept us informed and when they were ready for us she actually came and got us. We were off the ship and through CBP in about 10 minutes.

I had been told that since we had been in Belize that we would be scrutinized more carefully, but that wasn't the case. They had about 6 agents standing at the head of each line (rather than in their booths) and they looked at your passport and declaration form, kept the form and out the door we went.

Those of you who drive to NOLA everything will be great and you can be on your way by 8:15ish........for us flying.........the NOLA airport is no place to spend 5 or 6 hours........the most uncomfortable place I've ever been INCLUDING Ft. Lauderdale.........no comfortable seats....just generic fast food type eating places with only about 15 tables and chairs.......book a post cruise excursion and have at least a comfy bus to hang out on....

Oh and BTW......no Luggage Express in NOLA...........

Edit to Add: Debarkation didn't actually start until around 7:45 and we were getting in a cab at 8am!!!!!

Welcome back OKgirl,
So, how was the rest of the cruise, ports, excursions, etc? Sounds like you had a good cruise?

Thanks Donna (that's sister's name too).............

We had a great cruise BUT...............in 27 cruises this is the 1st time that I've ever gotten sick....I had scratchy eyes in NOLA and by Monday a stuffy nose and by Wednesday a full blown head and chest cold..........

Since I didn't check bags I didn't bring my usual pharmacy with me so I was at the mercy of the gift shop for some Nyquil.........

All in all though we had a great time........we've been to the area so many times that we rarely do excursions anymore....we were going to just walk around in Mahogony Bay, but I just didn't feel up to it...Wednesday was probably my worst day...Sister doesn't tender, so we stayed on the ship in Belize, but whet to Three Amigo's on Friday for some Nacho's and beers............

This was our 8th time on the Conquest and so it's very familiar.........many of the bartenders in the Lobby, Sky and Casino bars remembered us from past cruises and we spent most of the week visiting with them.........

I don't know if it was just because I was sick or because it was cloudy and a bit rainy most of the week, but I nearly froze to death....I often had to go outside to get warm...

Due to my coughing and sneezing so much, we only ate in the MDR (we have YTD) twice for dinner.........service was excellent and the food was delivered in a timely manner and at the correct temperature for our liking...

Other dinners would either be in the buffet (where Donna would make a plate for me) or Pizza or Sandwiches........I never ran into any lines at any of the alternative dining venues, but I wasn't all that hungry and were eating at non-conventional times....There was always hot pizza ready if you didn't care which kind you got and the burgers and hotdogs were hot and yummy as always.........

I did eat breakfast in the MDR every morning, but asked to be seated at a table alone due to my cold....all the servers treated me royally and even other servers from other areas would come over to make sure that I was okay.........One woman asked me on the way out of the DR if I was a celebrity or something because so many of the DR staff was coming over to talk to me.........I said no they are just taking really good care of me........Almost everyday I had my usual combination omlette with a side of hollandaise sauce and pork sausage........everything was piping hot (almost too hot!!!!) and yummy...

I won a lot of money in the casino when I would venture in there in the late evening and paid off my considerable S&S card and brought money home..........so it was a good week in that regard.....

This was sister's Milestone cruise and she had to show her Milestone letter to get her white card and it wasn't available until Monday evening, but then the people at guest services made her feel really special by always coming to talk to her whenever they saw her out and about.......

Our next cruise(s) is a B2B on the Breeze in January.........we'll be on the ship for the 6 day prior to BC6 and are looking forward to seeing a lot of you that we only sail with on Blogger's cruises........I know that Linda and family and Penny and Jen and several of my Crazies friends will be on that cruise with us.........We can't wait to explore the newest in the fleet........especially the new Sushi restaurant........

OKGirl,
SO sorry you got a cold while on your cruise, but sounds like you and your sister made the best of it. At least you have the next one on the books, good for you and hopefully you will not get sick.

Glad you had a good time despite getting the "cruise crud". (that is what I call it)

Sometimes I get it...sometimes I don't. I really try to avoid it since I am allergic to all cold medications.... honey and Vicks is about all I can do and just tough it out.

LOVE Gary Brierley (CD) he is such a sweetheart.

Wow ... 179 Platinum...that is a lot. I can remember when there were only 8 (and we were four of them).

I guess now that Milestone were demoted back to Platinum..that added over 2,000 to the list...

Can't wait to see you in January....

we are doing the B2B on the Breeze leaving Thanksgiving Day...so we will break her in for you.

I was on the same cruise. We boarded the same time as you. We had no issues with the VIP boarding. We went straight to our room and it was ready. In fact we had all our checked luggage delivered to our cabin by 1:30 pm.

You know me Linda, and I'm not a CD fan one way or another......I rarely have any interaction with them at all........Gary on the other had was quite a surprise........he regularly showed up at the Lobby, Casino or Wine bar to just sit and chat......very friendly and seemed to have all the time in the world to talk with the passengers.........I enjoyed my time with him and I could tell that the other newer passengers were thrilled for the experience.....
