Double deposits for Solos

I heard solos , as of August 30, will be required to pay double deposit at booking. WHY?

If you pay 100% supplement the cost is twice as high, makes sense the deposit should be higher. It's the same theory they are selling the room not the ticket to the ship so you pay for both deposits.

Deposits never both me as I usually just pay up front.

I think this would be fine IF Carnival would also give you DOUBLE SEA DAYS...

since you paid for them.

I think it is fine and beats having a cancellation fee from Day 1.

Many singles book single cabins in hopes of, or with full intention of, adding a second person later and take advantage of the single deposit.

Well as a solo cruiser I think this stinks. It is already bad enough that we have to pay 200% (even double port charges). All other cruise lines a solo cruiser only pays port charges for one. They only thing a solo cruiser pays for one is the taxes. I am sure that will be the next thing they make us pay double for. They sure are making it harder and harder for solo cruisers to stay with Carnival.

agreed and I did ask about this with the new program and to quote "at this time there are no plans to reward solo cruising with double points"

I don't understand why they don't just build more single berth cabins on the ships. Seems like an easy solution.

I pay double for 1/2 a cabin or less and only get credit for one cruise.

I am a single cruiser and I have NEVER paid double taxes or port charges on Carnival.

The 100 sq ft on the NCL Epic single cabins seem to be doing well.....

Hello, I just talked to Carnival about the double deposits. Yes they are going back to double deposits. However they are not charging double taxes or port charges for singles. I have been cruising single for many years and I do not ever remember being charged double taxes or port charges.
