Default Limited Mobility Bahamas Excursions?

Hi Folks!

We're finalizing plans for our first cruise! We're traveling with my elderly parents. They are quite active but my father has a few mobility issues. He can't walk as much as he used to.

In Nassau we are thinking of taking the Atlantis Resort tour. In Freeport, we were thinking of doing the semi-sub or the glass bottom boat.

Which would you suggest for a large-sized person (250-300 pounds) with somewhat limited mobility? (Walks with a cane and rests whenever possible.)

We're definitely planning to go with an official cruiseline excursion in Freeport since our time is limited there, but we wondered if Nassau/Atlantis is something the four of us could do on our own or if it would be better to pay for the $54 "Discover Atlantis and Harbor Cruise" Tour.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Ann

definately do Atlantis on your own, all you need to do is grab a land taxi at the pier, i wouldn't recommend the water taxi for your dad with mobility issues, head over to Paradise Island and Atlantis Resort Casino, when we were there last all we did was walk into the casino and there was a kiosk there were you could buy your admission ticket to The Dig.
I would rethink your tour options in Freeport. First off personally i think that the glass bottom boat tour is a total rip-off, and as for the semi-submersible its pretty tight quarters not sure if they could accomodate a large man, you might be better off spending a beach/shopping day at Port Lucaya

Thanks, LisaK!

I hoped that we could do Atlantis on our own. Do you remember how much the Taxi cost? I would like to have an idea of the going rate. I also wondered how far the walk is from the ship to Atlantis. I read that some people walk across the bridge but I am not sure how far that really is. My husband and I are interested in doing a few things that my parents want to skip. Now I need to find out about Kennedy Space Center.

I still need to make a decision about Freeport. Your advice was very helpful.

I remember the cab being like $10.00 a few yrs back, so I can bet it's bit more now. I can't imagine anyone but the hardiest attempting to walk to Atlantis, as I remember it was maybe a 10 minute cab ride..I need to go back to test my theories

Default Transportation to Kennedy Space Center?

Thank you! That really helps. I'll take a taxi to Atlantis if I'm not on a tour. Does anyone happen to know about transportation to Kennedy Space Center? Cost? It's $72 to go there with the Cruiseline but we will be in port five hours after it closes, so I'm not too worried about missing the boat if I get there on my own.

Thanks!
Ann

definately do Atlantis on your own, you don't need to do a ships tour at all.
I think that Trip is pretty close with the cost of cab fare, again its been awhile since i was there. As for the Kennedy Space Center cost, i don't have a clue, i would imagine that you could get admission prices on line and then do some searching for a shuttle service and compare it with the cost of the ships excursion

I'm looking forward to Kennedy and Atlantis! Now I just need to figure out what to do in Freeport. I would like to do something that involves sea life. I'm still nervous about the cramped quarters on the semi-sub.

zightlight - in Freeport you might want to look into doing a dolphin swim/encounter

That's a great suggestion, Lisa. I'll have to look into that.

zightlight - When are you cruising? That is the same itinerary we are doing in November. If you go before us and do Atlantis on your own can you give me a price. If we go thru Carnival it is $237 for 4 (only 3 need to pay) and includes lunch. It would be great if we could do this cheaper. Thanks!

Hi there!

Our cruise departs in the morning! I'll give you any details after next week.

Our party is still debating about what we want to do as far as excursions are concerned. Some of us would prefer doing nothing but relaxing and looking at the ocean. A lot of people aren't interested in doing a lot of walking and I've been told that Atlantis requires a great deal of walking so I don't know what will happen with that. I'll have a great time no matter what we decide to do.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!! This is my first of many, many cruises.
