Using a iPad 2 on a cruise ship?

I'm going on my first cruise in about 2 weeks and was thinking about bringing my iPad with me. It will be useful for the 10 hour car ride but I was wondering if anyone had some good ideas that they use their tablets for on the cruise ship it self.

Surfing the internet.

Downloading photos.

Taking notes during lectures.

Listening to music in your cabin.

Watching your favorite tv shows by the pool.

Is it safe to leave it in my cabin while I am not using it?

Me, I would leave in safe or in a locked suitcase/bag. I always leave laptops out but an ipad is a little too tempting.

Of course, many ships have ipads already in rooms for guest use and those don't go missing.
